Homemade Cinna Sticks

Wednesday, April 11, 2012

Did you guess it?  Yep, I made Cinna Sticks with the other half of the dough. It only made sense.  They were fluffy, buttery, sugary goodness I tell you. I dare you to try them.  DARE you I say.

Musical Selection: American Girls by: Counting Crows.  I recently remembered this song and had a mini dance session with myself...and my dog.
Start by flouring a pizza peel (or a baking sheet)
Pull the dough into a semi-circular shape.
Slather on some melted butter.  I do have to say you don't need as much as I used.  For real.
Sprinkle on the cinnamon and sugar
Like sooo... and bake it at 400 degrees for about 10 minutes or until golden brown.
Meanwhile combine softened butter
Powdered sugar
Milk
And a splash of vanilla.  I admit, I used vanilla coffee syrup instead of actual vanilla. It was awesome.
Here is the dough all baked up fresh and golden
Cut into strips using a pizza cutter.
And serve.
Little Cinna Stick of heaven right there.

Homemade Cinna Sticks
Flour for dusting
1/4 cup melted butter
1/2 cup white sugar
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

For the dipping glaze:
1/2 cup really softened butter
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 tablespoon (or so depending on the consistency you want) milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Dust your pizza peel with flour--if you are going to use a baking sheet (and not a pizza stone) flip a cookie/jelly roll pan over and dust with flour.  Take the dough and form it into a circular shape.  Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.  Bake on a pizza stone (if using) for 10 minutes or until golden brown.

While baking, combine the softened butter, powdered sugar and vanilla.  Add the milk until you reach your desired "dippability" (yep, I made up a word).

Cut into strips and serve with dipping glaze.
