Ham and Cheese Sliders

Friday, December 30, 2011

Are you looking for a quick, tasty and especially easy appetizer for New Years Eve!?  Well, lucky you, here it is.  Ham and Cheese Sliders.  Like most recipes I have used lately, this one comes from Pinterest.  However, I had them a few years ago when our buddy Alex's girlfriend (now lovely wife), Meghan, brought them to a party.  They are simply tasty.

Mr. Schwartz and I will be celebrating Meghan's birthday and ringing in the new year at the same time.  We are so blessed to have had an amazing year.  Celebrating our marriage along with many of our friends and family, health, great jobs and tons of fun.  Thank you to all who have made this year one for the record books.  Let's see if 2012 can top it.

Have a safe and fun-filled New Years Celebration!!!  Cheers!

Musical Selection: Normandie by: the Shout Out Louds

Start by combining the Miracle Whip and Mayo.  If you only have one or the other, that is fine.  Just use whatever while salad dressing you have on hand.
Prepare the meat and cheese.
Okay, this is where Mr. Schwartz and I disagreed.  I wanted to prepare each slider individually and being a guy, Mr. Schwartz thought that was ludicrous.  Ultimately, Mr. Schwartz won and we made them all at one time...follow along.  First, he cut all of the rolls at one time.
Spread them generously with the mayo/Miracle Whip.
Then broke them apart.
Place them in a baking dish to assemble.  As you can see I did one piece of cheese...
Then the ham...
And another piece of cheese.  Top with the top of the bun.  Assemble all of the sliders in the baking dish.
Then work on the sauce.  Start with melted butter.
Yellow mustard.
Poppy seeds.  I didn't measure.
Grate some onion.  You could also finely chop this but I didn't want any chunks of onion.
Add some Worcestershire sauce
Give it a good stir.  I made this the day before and put it in the fridge along with the sliders that I covered with Press and Seal.
There they are in their assembled beauty.
When its time to make the sliders, I heated up the sauce until it was pourable.  Maybe a minute on high.  Then drizzle over the top of the sandwiches.  I didn't end up using all of the sauce and it was more than enough on the sliders.  Pop these in the oven, covered in tin foil, for 10 minutes at 375. After 10 minutes take off the tin foil and bake for an additional 2 minutes.  (Yes, I made two pans and this is the other pan).
After 12 minutes of baking these golden sliders will be all yours.  Seriously, they are fantastic.

Ham and Cheese Sliders:

1/4 cup Mayo
1/4 cup Miracle Whip
24 Hawaiian Rolls (these are essential and I find mine in the deli area in a bright orange package)
1/4 lb deli ham (or 12 slices cut in half)
1/4 lb swiss cheese (or 6 slices cut in fourths)
1 stick of butter
1 tablespoon yellow mustard
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/4 small onion, grated (or 1 tablespoon finely minced)
1 tablespoon poppy seeds

Start by mixing the mayo and Miracle Whip together.  Spread on the inside of each bun.  Layer with cheese, then ham, then another piece of cheese.  Place sliders in a 9x13 baking dish.  Set aside.

Mix together the melted butter, yellow mustard, Worcestershire sauce, onion and poppy seeds.  Pour over the top of the sliders.

Bake in a 400 degree oven, covered with tin foil for 10 minutes.  After 10 minutes, remove the tin foil and bake for an additional 2 minutes or until golden brown.

Enjoy!
